JohnThis Krups Gold Tone Filter is today's version of the expensive gold filter I bought, way back in the mid-1980's, with my Krups coffeemaker that I have back in my winter home. This new one doesn't fit the filter basket perfectly but does the job just fine. The main advantage is that you don't have to use paper filters which can be a messy business. And, the side benefits of saving money on filters and not using more paper are a plus too. I highly recommend that if you are investing in the quality coffeemaker that Krups makes, you spend the few extra for this filter.Green alternative to the coffee filter!I love this filter. Just empty, wash, and REUSE. A small place to start for "going green." A little worried about the handle, seems a little flimsy-not a deal breaker though.excellent coffee makerI like this coffee maker very much because it grinds and makes coffee. I used to buy Cuisinart coffee makers, which did a good job but didn't last very long before malfunctioning and needing replacement. I haven't had the Krups coffee long enough to know whether it will prove more durable than the Cuisinart but I am hopeful that it will be as it looks very well made.Pro's: makes excellent coffee and appears to be solidly built. Has all the functions one would expect in a high end coffee maker Con's: the instructions that come with the coffee could be better written. In particular, unlike every other coffee maker I have ever used, there is a top piece immediately above the coffee pot that must be swung fully to the left or no coffee will be brewed. There is a lever that swings this top piece out. Then, when the coffee makers starts, this top piece automatically returns to the position where most users will probably think it should have been all along. A few reviews make reference to the importance of reading the manual carefully, but none refer specifically to this odd feature of how the coffee maker is operated.
