Carafe doesn't keep coffee hot

According to the manual, the insulated thermal carafe is supposed to keep the coffee pipping hot for hours. NOT TRUE. The machine turns off, and the plate only supports the carafe, it doesn't heat it. The coffee is only hot enough for the first cup, and after that I have to tell my guests to place their coffee in the microwave. Disappointing. Well, if there's no heat source, how is it going to keep it hot? A metal carafe it's not like the old style glass lined thermal bottles (those worked!). If the objetive is to avoid burnt coffee, the manufacturer could perhaps have taken advantage of the programming function, and allow the user to select how long the plate should be on. After all, what's technology for?

new finish

This coffee maker is a replacement of th identical maker that started to leak. I was always satisfied with the old one and one major improvement is the finish on the new. I don't have the problem of fingerprints as I used to.

Weak Coffee

We got this as a gift and were excited, but ultimately disappointed.

I would rather have the old $15 Mr.Coffee back. No matter how many different tricks we try (pulling the carafe out so it steeps a little, adding extra grounds) the coffee is weak and just BAD!

I am going to go out and get another french press.

Despite the reviews..

Okay, after reading all the reviews, mostly negative against this coffee maker I still decided to give it a try because my old one quit heating and well darn it I needed a coffee maker fast!

This is my review broken down:

1. Yes it is a pain to clean. Even after they redesigned it for easier cleaning according to the package. You have the following to clean each day:

1. Grinder and lid
2. Basket
3. Basket holder
4. Basket holder lid.
5. Carafe and lid.

Before I just needed to clean out the basket and carafe, the built in coffee grinder on my old one only needed cleaning once a month or so at most and I make 1-2 pots a day. With this one it is a necessity to clean out it after each use or the beans will begin to build in the grinder due to moisture causing an uneven grind next time. I didn't notice ground coffee being spread all over like some other reviewers have stated, I just make sure that I hear the click when shutting the basket to make sure it is good and tight.

2. The noise (grinder);

This isn't nearly as noisy as my other machine, yes as another reviewer has stated it does grind for a LONG time (45 seconds). I'm not really sure why when the grinder itself doesn't hold more than a small amount to begin with and it seems most of the coffee beans are long gone after 20 seconds or so. This being said, the noise isn't that bad, it is to be expected when you are grinding coffee beans, they all make noise. If you don't want noise get pre-ground coffee beans. I really would have liked to see a larger storage on the grinder. My other coffeemaker allowed for a weeks worth to be stored in the coffee maker with a nice tight top to keep it fresh.

3. My main negative about the coffeemaker:

No matter how long I preheat the carafe (boil water separately and then let it sit in the carafe), it still doesn't seem to keep the coffee hot. I read that someone said that theirs is still warm even the next morning. I would like to know how they managed this. I have to reheat my coffee in the micro cup by cup approximately one to two hours after brewing. I really wish the holding plate was heated to keep it warm, I know that this would detract from having a carafe and keep the coffee from becoming bitter due to over heating..but at this point I would like my coffee to remain hot for longer than an hour. I really don't know what else to do to keep it warm. The coffee comes out piping hot ( I use the 2-4 cup setting specially so I can have my coffee hot, yet still withing an hour or two..luke warm coffee.

4. Appearance:

The machine looks really nice, it has brushed stainless with a nice gloss yet not too much. It does show finger prints so be prepared to wipe those off after each use.

The coffee maker makes a nice cup of coffee, and I really enjoy the 2-4 cup setting allowing me to make a stronger brew, the noise isn't bad at all, just long and well clean up is just that clean up, no way to make that easier I suppose with this maker. So, if you are looking for a grind and brew I would recommend this machine, lets just hope that maybe for some unknown reason my carafe doesn't hold the heat and you get one that does!

Grind and Brew.........love this coffeemaker

We have had this coffee pot for one month and use it just about everyday.
It is wonderful!
Load up the beans and program when you want it to start in the morning and then you'll have fresh coffee. My trips to the coffee shop are pretty much very infrequent now.

People complain about the steam that comes up in the grinder compartment. Although I have to agree that it would be nice if they had worked this problem out, it is no big deal. Just was the pieces....not rocket science. I always was a coffee pot after using it anyway so, again no problem. I was pretty worried about this because of all the complaints. All it means though is that when you put the beans in and then are done grinding and go down into the next compartment, there is a little residual coffee film left from the beans and then steam enters. Big deal.....just rinse it out. When I use my stand alone grinder for coffee, I always washed it after I was done grinding anyway.

The noise from the grinder could wake you up, but I set mine to go off ten minutes before I wake up for really fresh coffee.

The carafe is smaller than the coffee pot. I previously had the Cuisinart model DTC-975BKN, which still works but it doesn't grind on its own, and I've become lazy about doing that. For us, we were always throwing coffee out with the other model,(for just two people)...but with the grind and brew there is just enough for 2 travel mugs and two cups of coffee. If you are looking for a bigger pot, do not get this stainless carafe model then. My sons have the glass carafe grind and brew model and I believe it holds more coffee.

All in all, for the lazy factor of wanting fresh brewed coffee and not having to grind the beans yourself......we are really satisfied with this product. You won't be unhappy. Just remember to wash out the bean holder, the top to the grinder basket and then you're all set!

I don't believe we go through coffee beans any faster than we did when we ground our own beans....and the coffee always tastes just perfect to us. We fill the bean compartment all the way to the top.

So, my review and opinion is..... you won't be sorry. You will like the coffee. No extra beans used than normal. Thoroughly clean after each use.

Amazon.com Review

When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri
