The unit allows for short term and long term readings, as radon levels vary seasonally, and over time. I have carefully followed the unit readings and on average, it pretty much tracks the readings I received from a few random charcoal canister tests performed at different times during the year. I have a large basement and noticed that levels seem to vary even in different areas of the basement,so I will likely buy more of these units in the future. If you use the basement as living space (as I do) ,this device is a must. Very accurate and highly recommended.One question I do have that perhaps other can comment on - the instructions recommend an annual calibration for commercial use, optional for home use...If anyone knows how often this calibration is really needed, I would appreciate the feedback. I have already tested several areas of my home and have the relief that the radon levels are safely below the point where mitagation equipment is required. I have used the one-time use detectors in the past and you have to wait weeks for the results.No ProblemsPlugged it in and it started to give readings in 2 days. After that point it will give you the average from when you started to take readings. After several days you can also press a button and it will give you the short term or real time reading. Very satisfied.Good investmentI bought this and was skeptical of the reading I got which was a bit high. I set it up in an upstairs room with good outside ventilation to get a baseline reading which should be around 0.5pCi/L. It tested to about 1.5 so I knew it was testing a bit high, but accurately. We had our level tested by a professional after they did mitigation and it was still testing 1 unit higher.You can send the unit in for calibration, but it costs about seventy-five dollars. It's alot cheaper to find out where it falls by comparing your readings with the outside air to establish a baseline. We now use this to monitor, and it easy to loan it out for others to use. Much better value than one time use canisters.
