Owned this for several years and have been happyWe've had this coffee maker for several years now. We replaced our cheap coffee maker with the CoffeeTeam S, and it was a world of difference. Waking up every morning to freshly ground coffee has been great! Overall, here are our impressions on the coffee maker:BUILD/QUALITY: The construction of the unit is very solid. The buttons are a little wobbly, but everything feels very secure in it's place. Unfortunately, our LCD display did break. With as many responses as I've seen here about the same problem, this is probably the biggest manufacturing flaw. We called Capresso, and they replaced the display for us no questions asked. We were without our coffee maker for about 4-5 days. COFFEE QUALITY (after using several different whole bean coffee): We drank sludge compared to this coffee. The freshly ground coffee does not taste bitter or burned. If you like really strong coffee, be sure to get a really dark roast beans. By default, the unit grinds enough for 2,4,6,8,10 (you select) cups of coffee. And, for each amount, you can select mild, medium, or strong. If you need a really strong roast, just select a higher amount of grinding than the amount water you add. Plus, there is a button for 2-4 cups that I believe keeps the water in the basket longer than when this option is turned off. SOUND: You're grinding coffee. It's loud. MAINTENANCE: Cleanup is pretty simple. Just don't let the coffee sit in the filter for a long time. It's easy to clean, but the filter can get really oily. Overall, we've been really happy with it. If the LCD display didn't go out, this would be a 5 star coffee maker. OverpricedI have owned this coffee maker for approximately 2 years and today the display disappeared. When trying to turn the coffee maker on it automatically turned itself to the lost power setting. After a few minutes the machine started to grind all on it's own and started smoking. Had to rush to get it outside. A call to Capresso customer service got me the comment that the machine could be repaired for the cost of $75.00 plus shipping. Needless to say the only place this thing will get shipped to is the landfill. Save your money.Consistently Great Coffee!!This is the 2nd Capresso 454 I have purchased this year. I bought 1 in March for home, and liked it so well I purchased a 2nd machine in July for our camp. I love not having to measure the coffee, and having it come out the same everytime. Often, especially after a glass of wine (or 2) at night, it's so easy to miss count and be disappointed in the morning. I searched hard and long for a machine that would grind the beans, easy to use and clean, and keep the coffee nice and hot without effecting the taste. I will add - the 2nd machine I bought, came in defect. I received it on a Monday, and didn't realize until we went to camp the following weekend and set it up. I called Capresso customer service line Saturday morning, and they were EXCELLENT. The rep. told me what components to keep, processed the replacement and walked me through the process. The following Tuesday I received the replacement and a UPS prepaid sticker to ship the defective machine back. I simply repacked the unit, taped the box up, applied the UPS sticker and dropped it off a UPS pick-up location. It couldn't have been easier, and I had my new machine on time for vacation. Just love both!Didn't work for me and had to returnBad luck most likely. Didn't like how the ground coffee had such a long path into the filter - the grinds could be from a day or two ago (not "todays grind"). Unit had to be returned due to non functioning cup level control.Capresso 454This is my second Capresso 454, the first one lasted 8 years before the element gave out and it was leaking while brewing. I do note that the new one is improved from the old one and I do not foresee it leaking like the old one did. It also has a led light that remains on all the time unlike the old one that would go out while not in use. I do find that the new perforated papers work better than the non perfs do.
