How crazy is that?!Nice, Until it Failed After One YearI really liked this coffee maker, with a few gripes, until it broke. I had read other reviews warning of early failure, but decided to take a chance because I really liked the concept of just pouring in beans and water and getting fresh coffee. It also is a nice looking design, and the timer feature is great. Not so great is the fact that you have little control over the strength of the coffee. Sure, it has strength settings, but they are too weak. It is as if someone at Krups decided they know what's best for you. Despite using the strongest setting, it just doesn't grind enough beans, so the coffee ends up too weak for my tastes. If you are the type that likes medium-weak coffee, then you could be happy with this machine. Next gripe: the chute for the ground coffee doesn't flow well. The grounds are supposed to flow out of the grinder into the basket, but they put the chute parallel to the ground, so the grounds get bunched up in there. It causes problems if you have dark roasts, which can be oily and sticky, causing jams. Medium roasts work OK, but I prefer dark, which is a shame.Given all this, I would have rated it 4 stars, but now it is broken with an apparent bad heating element, and destined for the trash. For just one year of service, and just after the warranty expired, it was a terrible investment. Since others have also reported bad reliability, I can't recommend this machine. Unreliable and Poor Customer ServiceAfter nearly a year, our first KM7000 stopped grinding and with a repair cost exceeding that of a new one, we decided to try it again. After only 4 months, the 2nd KM7000 started to progressively brew weaker and weaker coffee and we were directed by Krups to send to one of their warranty repair places. The fact that this was the second machine to break did not concern them. Sending to the Krups approved repair facility, I have been without a coffee maker now for weeks as they await a backordered part and will not replace as Krups will not allow. Krup's North America customer service organization is not set up to respond to product issues of the consumer and have essentially outsourced their support to local stores who are not empowered to do anything but fix the product when they can get the parts. If and when I receive my coffeemaker back, I hope for a few months of it working before I expect it to break and then will toss it out and buy anything but a Krups.Same old problemSame problem everyone else has. After a year, the heating element went. Not too much of a problem, as i was able to repair it myself. Worked great for another 4 months, now it won't even turn on. This machine is really good and i loved the coffee it made, but it is ridiculus to have to replace this machine every year because of a two dollar part. Krups should replace the "u" in their name with an "a", because this is nothing but a piece of Krap.Broke 3 times - Not reliable!When it works properly, which unfortunately is a rare event, it makes great coffee. The first unit we purchased had issues with the grinder. It did not grind the right amount of coffee for the number of cups selected. We returned that and were sent a new one. That one worked great for awhile. But then the instrument panel went dead. It's an electronic display, so you could not see any of the settings (like # cups, brew strength, etc.). We had it for less than a year, so it was still under warranty and we sent it away to be repaired. Over six weeks later, we finally got our coffee maker back and it worked fine, for awhile. This morning all of the sudden it has plumbing problems. Instead of going into the coffee pot, the water leaks all over the place. Since we've had it more than a year now, it is no longer under warranty and Krups will not stand behind it. We can pay to send it to a repair center in NY and get an estimate for how much it will cost to fix it. I think we are going to give up and retire it and get a different-brand coffee maker.
