Ok, but not an exact replacement for paperI was getting frustrated discarding paper filters after only getting one use out of them. A permanent filter seems more ecologically sound, and more practical in the long run. This particular one seems to be constructed just fine, and fits my ceramic Melitta perfectly. However, the coffee it "brews" is not quite the same as what I get from paper (using the white Melitta filters). Firstly, hot water runs through this much more quickly, so the end result is weaker. Secondly, it allows a fine grit to pass through which influences taste, not in a better way, and also makes the brewed coffee a little bit cloudy. The fast pass-through seems nice, especially since I do not much like to wait for the paper filter and always have to fiddle with the grounds to get all the water to make its way through. But apparently that bit of stalling allows for better "brewing". I have experimented with slightly clogging the Melitta hole, which helps, but is a hassle. Maybe there is a specific Melitta with a specific hole size intended for permanent filters, don't know. Anyway, this device such as it is is fine, but the concept is a bit unsuccessful. I'm willing to keep testing it for a while to see if I get to the brew I want, but I suspect I'll be going back to paper.Works FGreatI recently Purchased the filter and it fits just like the original 12 cup filter did. The filter size (height) is not the same as my original Starbucks Bareita Coffee filter and that has made no difference at all even when you make a full pot of coffee.Permanent filter is the only way to goWhen I purchased my new drip coffee maker, it required the use of a #4 filter. I have used paper filters of this type in other coffee makers before and always had a hard time getting them to unfold and stay well-seated. The solution? This permanent metal screen filter. It works well, is easy to clean and is cheap when compared to buying paper filter replacements over the years. Amazon had a wide selection of these permanent filters. I bought this one because it was in the "mid price" range, not too cheap and not too expensive. I've been entirely happy with my purchase, and with Amazon customer service over the years.Lives up to other reviews!Inexpensive, well-made, doesn't affect taste of coffee. Much more satisfactory than the gold one we bought that less than a year ago that ripped!Item ReceivedI just want to thank you for the SUPER FAST shipping we were amazed on how fast it got here.
