Previously, when inviting friends over, we had to wash glasses and wipe them dry manually to remove any white spots before putting on the table - washing machine made them clean, but not clear. Now we don't need to worry about it.I installed the filter in the middle of March, 2010. In the beginning of May, the white residue started coming back and I ordered replacement filters. On 05/13/2010 I replaced the filter and as of 07/17/2010 our dishes are still clean. If I have to replace filter every 2-3 months, it's OK with me. During installation I did not have any specific issues. Given that I have to replace filter once in a while, I decided to replace the copper tube going to dishwasher with a flexible supply pipe. Other than that, I did not have to do anything special. So, overall I am impressed with the filter and I highly recommend it. P.S. I don't leave many reviews (lazy?), in fact this is my second review on Amazon, but this filter is so great so I believe it deserves to be told to other people about. Works as stated but not for longThe filter worked for eliminating white, chalky residue on my dishes caused by hard water. My experience was the same as the other reviewers who also claimed it solved their problem. HOWEVER - and this was a deal breaker for me - within the first 30 days the white film started to return. I live in the city water district and do admittedly have hard water but I expect the filter to work longer. I simply can not afford to buy a new filter every month. At that rate it would be more financially sensible to install a water softener. I'm disappointed.Great Product!!I don't normally write reviews but this product has made such a difference on my dishes! We live in a city with very hard water and have suffered with cloudy, gritty, dishes for a long time. We are a family of 5 so run the dishwasher daily. The cutlery and stainless looked horrible and I was washing 1/2 our dishes by hand AFTER they went through the dishwasher. NO MORE!!! I tried everything to improve the situation and this is the only product that has brought my dishes back to looking practically new. The glasses shine as do my pots, pans and cutlery. I find I have to tighten it several times when I change the filter to stop the leaking but eventually I get there and once it's on, it works great. Overall, very easy to install just takes a little patience to get it right. Happy dishwashing!Only thing you need for clear clean dishes!Very simply put... This thing works! I threw out our old dishwasher and bought a nice kitchen aid dishwasher. Both of which old and new where leaving white powder / hard water / lime scale buildup on our dishes. After a few washes you could even see this building up inside the dishwasher. Kitchen Aid said use the tablets to wash dishes the guy at lowes said never use tablets only the gel and just a little bit. I tried everything. We have city water and no water softener. I figured I would try this before buying a water softener and I am glad I did. After the first wash I stuck my white powder wine glasses in the dishwasher and they came out as clean as they were new. This thing rocks! Also, very cheap to maintain. By the way I only use tablets and they work better for me than the gel soap.I LOVE THE DIFI...I'm with you John. In fact, I think we're neighbors. Lasts about 3 months for me, then I begin to see the "cloudy glassware" again, change it out, immediate results!
