Good, user-friendly features

For years I owned a coffee maker which had a glass carafe and a heating element to keep the coffee warm after brewing. Inevitably the coffee would sit in the pot for 30+ minutes and become bitter tasting. Now with the Capresso model and its stainless-steel carafe that problem is eliminated...nicely done.

Get What You Payed For?

I was a firm believer that you get what you pay for. If a few more dollars gets you a better built, longer lasting product that maybe even functions better - thats money well spent. Buying this machine does not follow that model. With the MT600, a few more dollars gets you something slightly worse than an entry level MrCoffee. I used my MT600 for three days and returned it. The biggest problems I encountered were with the thermal carafe. The first being a raised seam in the plastic spout which ran from the tip down towards the carafe. This caused the coffee to run back up the carafe and spill all over the counter. I tried slow pour, fast pour, contact with my mug, no contact etc. The spill was unavoidable. I ended up sanding the seam away with some fine sandpaper and the problem was solved. The next issue was the very poorly made lid. It has coarse threads that do not want to line up. However, the bigger issue is that it is two parts - the threaded section and the top. As you screw it down, if you turn just a little too far, the top makes contact, the threaded portion continues and it actually disassembles itself. Once this started to happen, I knew I was not getting the quality I had hoped for. On the upside, the coffee was very good. Based on this experience, I am a firm believer that you might get what you pay for but definately not if you payed for an MT600.

Great Thermal Coffee Maker...BUT

Capresso MT600 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe

Great design, especially the large mouth on carafe which makes cleaning easy. The MT600 makes great hot coffee and the thermal pot keeps it warm for hours. I liked my Capresso MT500 which I used previous to purchasing the MT600.

However, I am disappointed with this product. Looking beyond the lovely design, it lacks quality details. The construction of Capresso MT600 (made in China) is inferior to the MT500 (made in Portugal) which I owned and used for 7 years prior to purchasing this coffee maker. The unit is not as solid, the lid to water reservoir is wobbly, and the water reservoir has a groove on the left side instead of a nice clean sleek left side of the MT500. The carafe's lid is difficult to turn but I like the larger mouth for easy cleaning (about the only improvement I can detect). The water indicator on the right is hard to see unless you turn the coffee maker. I could see the water indicator level on the MT500 without turning the unit. The MT600's water level indicator can only be read by turning the maker to the side and viewing it straight on. Basically...the MT600 is a cheap imitation of the MT500. I expected to receive a quality built product from Capresso.

Upon receiving my coffee maker, I called Capresso Customer Service and was told that my unit was fine but it had a wobbly water reservoir lid. I was told the MT600 was more affordable than the MT500 and the manufacturer site had changed. I do not mind paying more for quality well designed and crafted product which I used every day. I will now be on the lookout for another coffee maker which has a solid feel and nice design.

Good Coffee, Cumbersome Design

This coffee maker makes good, hot coffee very fast, which is why we purchased it. The functional design leaves a lot to be desired. The water level indicator is difficult to see while filling. The lid is large and difficult to pour around. And when pouring from a full carafe, you always seem to spill. I have tried pouring fast or slow, but always end up with water on the floor.

Love it, but it broke in less than two months!

Let me start by saying that I love this machine. I did my research before I chose a machine, and I chose wisely. My husband and I have loved the coffee this machine brews and ended our Starbucks habit. Even though our coffee is not quite as hot as promised (even after prepping the pot), it is still a WONDERFUL coffeemaker.

That said, our machine broke in less than two months of ownership. The lid just fell apart, out of the blue. We cannot think of a reason it did so! We don't have any children, and knowing that this machine needed to last us a long time, we've treated it gently. We prepared the machine last night for our morning coffee and everything was fine. We got up this morning to find half the lid floating in our pot of coffee. We are devastated.

We don't have a lot of money and saved for quite some time to buy this machine. We'd call and ask them to replace it, but I don't think we could afford the shipping. Our budget is THAT strained at the moment, unfortunately. I'm not sure what we'll do now, but I sure will miss our wonderful coffee pot.

I'd give it 5 stars for quality of coffee, but 1 star for durability. As a compromise, I give it 2 stars.
